Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 Released, Entry-Level Chipset with Two Camera and Full-Screen Support

The smartphone chipset developer company, Qualcomm Incorporated, has just announced a chipset for an entry-level smartphone called Snapdragon 215.

This chipset uses 28nm process technology similar to the previous generation Snapdragon 212. But in terms of performance has increased thanks to the use of Quad-Core Cortex-A53 with 64-bit architecture.

Qualcomm claims that Snapdragon 215 has 50% faster performance than Snapdragon 212 which has a Quad-Core Cortex-A7 with 32-bit architecture.

If Snapdragon 212 only supports screen size of 18: 9 with HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels), unlike Snapdragon 215, it is capable of supporting a 19: 9 ratio screen with HD + resolution (1560 x 720 pixels).

Interestingly, this Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 has two Image Signal Processor (ISP) support so that it can support two 8 MP cameras or one 13 MP camera. Meanwhile, there is also support from third-party Qualcomm partners that allow this chipset to be able to run two cameras with optical zoom and depth sensing features that have better details than the previous generation.

Concerning graphics, the chipset is also equipped with the Adreno 308 GPU so it can improve gaming performance by up to 28% compared to Snapdragon 212's GPU Adreno 304, which allows smooth graphics for casual gaming.

With this increase in features, it turns out that there is one feature that has declined compared to the previous generation. Snapdragon 215 only supports Quick Charge 1.0 with a maximum power of 10W for battery charging.

While Snapdragon 212 already supports Quick Charge 2.0 with a maximum power of 18W. But of course, Qualcomm has certain reasons for doing this.

In terms of cellular connectivity, Qualcomm has embedded a Snapdragon X5 modem on this chipset that allows smartphones to have LTE Cat 4 support with carrier aggregation capabilities for data rates and downloads of up to 150 Mbps.

Snapdragon 215 is the first Qualcomm series 200 chipset that has Voice Call EVS support (Ultra HD Voice Calls) and Dual SIM with Dual VoLTE allowing smartphone users to use two SIM cards for 4G-LTE simultaneously with good quality voice and data.

With the features and specifications offered, is this one chipset better than the previous generation for entry-level class?
