Fixing a DCOM (Distributed COM) ID 10016 error on Windows 10
The DistributedCOM error with ID 10016 is an error message that often appears since the existence of the Windows OS 8. An error can occur if an application starts the DCOM server but does not have permission to run it.
Even though it is not a critical bug and will not damage the system, the DCOM ID 100016 error will fulfill the log of the Event viewer which can make it difficult for readers of Info Technology to diagnose errors on a pc / laptop.
The display on the event viewer will display a DistributedCOM error: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {random number} and APPID APPID {random number} to the user NT AUTHORITY \ LOCAL SERVICE SID (S -1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
Distributed COM errors occur most often on computers/laptops that have upgraded from the old Windows version to Windows10 and will not occur if you do a clean install. An error occurred because during the upgrade there were some settings that were not updated.
Fixing DCOM ID 10016 error
Before taking steps to repair, first backup the Windows system (can with Windows Recovery) or simply backup the registry that will be deleted. Also, make sure you have logged in with the user who has the Administrator before carrying out the following corrective steps below.
1. Press the Windows button and then type ‘regedit’ and run the application.
2. On the left, navigate to the folder "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Ole".
3. View and delete 4 keys (can also be less than 4) on the right side which has the name DefaultAccessPermission, DefaultLaunchPermission, MachineAccessRestriction, and MachineLaunchRestriction.
4. Restart the computer, and check the status in the log viewer whether the error has been lost or not.
By following the steps above and removing the 4 keys above; then it will make DCOM again have access to default permissions on the system and will give permission to applications that require DCOM Server access.
